Hardware structure of USB

USB uses a four-wire cable, two of which is a serial channel for data transfer, and two for downstream (Downstream) devices to provide power, and for any devices that have been successfully connected and identified with each other, data will be transmitted at the highest rate supported by both equipment. The USB bus will automatically convert from high-speed to low-speed and match the lock at the appropriate rate according to the peripheral condition in the compatible transmission mode. USB is a bus based on token. Similar to Token Ring network or FDDI based on token bus. The USB host controller broadcasts the token, the device on the bus detects whether the address in the token matches itself, and responds by receiving or sending data to the host. USB manages the USB bus power supply by supporting the Suspend/restore operation. The USB system uses a cascaded star topology, which consists of three basic parts: host, hub, and functional equipment.

The host, also known as the root, root knot, or root hub, is installed on the motherboard or as a adapter card on the computer, the host contains the primary controller and root hub (root hub), controls the flow of data and control information on the USB bus, and each USB system can have only a root hubs, which are connected to the primary controller, and a computer may have multiple root hubs.

A hub is a specific component of a USB structure that provides a point at which a device, called a port, is connected to a USB bus, detects devices connected to the bus, and provides power management for those devices, responsible for fault detection and recovery of the bus. Hubs provide energy for the bus and can provide energy for itself (from external sources).

The feature device is connected to the bus through the port. USB can also be used as a hub.
